    SPOKANE VALLEY – According to reports an area man died after an exchange of gunfire with Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputies on June 4 shortly before 12:30 in the morning. The shooting happened in the 6300 block of E. Broadway Ave. when deputies were working to locate a wanted suspect.     LIBERTY LAKE - A local 17 year old girl continues battling cancer in the in-patient oncology wing of Sacred Heart Medical Center. Payton Begovich was diagnosed in 2021 at age 15, with a malignant form of brain cancer called glioblastoma multiforme. She has undergone multiple treatments from that time onward.     LIBERTY LAKE – A Cheney man struck a pedestrian on Interstate 90 near the weigh station on June 6 According to the Washington State Patrol, Marietta Portegai, 78, of Calgary, Canada was trying to walk across the eastbound lanes of I-90 when she was struck by a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Jeromy L.
