  • Medical Lake hosting boys and girls after school programs beginning in July

    Boys and girls grades 3-8 from Medical Lake, Cheney, Airway Heights and the surrounding West Plains are invited to take part in a health and safety awareness and basketball skills camp this coming July. The camp is being held at Medical Lake High School, Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to noon. Session one runs July 9-11, session two is July 16-18 and the session three is July 23-25.   • Anna Flatt benefit dinner and silent auction set for June 23

    A benefit dinner and silent auction will be held for Anna Flatt on Saturday, June 23 at the Knights of Columbus located at 302 E. Boone in Spokane, from 4-7 pm. Flatt is a long-time Cheney resident diagnosed in April 2006 with multiple myeloma, a blood borne cancer that affects the plasma cells and bone marrow. She will be traveling to Seattle this month, accompanied by her husband of 25 years, Joe, to receive a stem cell transplant and extensive chemotherapy treatments.   • Cheney adopts new K-12 science curriculum

    By JOHN McCALLUM Editor The Cheney School Board decided to follow the recommendations of a study committee and approved the adoption at its May 23 meeting of a new science curriculum for all K-12 students in the district. The first phase of the new Full Option Science System (FOSS) was adopted last year for students in grades K-6. After waiting for the new Washington State Science Grade Level Expectation requirements to come out this year, the committee recommended to adopt the remaining elementary school components as well... Full story

    Eastern Washington University Professor William J. Kelley was given the Outstanding Planner award at the recent American Planning Association Conference in Philadelphia.
