Filing week opens with several candidates

CHENEY — A local man is among the political hopefuls who have already filed for office in an effort to replace Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

Rick Valentine Flynn of Cheney filed as a candidate for the 5th Congressional House of Representative position on Tuesday, May 7, the second day of filing week.

He is among a growing Republican field looking to replace McMorris Rodgers, R-Spokane, who previously announced she isn’t seeking reelection to the position that represents Eastern Washington communities near the Idaho border from Canada to Oregon.

Other Republicans who have filed include Michael Baumgartner of Spokane, Rene Holaday of Addy, and Jacquelyn Maycumber of Republic.

Democrats who have filed already include Matthew Welde of Liberty Lake, Carmela Conroy and Bernadine Bank of Colbert.

Filing continues through Friday.

Several other political hopefuls have thrown their hats in the ring and paid filing fees for local, state and federal positions.

Among the candidates who filed Monday and Tuesday are:

Commissioner District No. 1 — Chris Jordan, D-Spokane

Commissioner District No. 3 — Josh Kearns, R-Mead

Commissioner District No. 5 — Molly Marshall, D-Spokane; and Al French, R-Spokane.

Superior Court

Position No. 1 — Annette Plese of Spokane

Position No. 2 — Charnelle Bjelkengren of Spokane Valley

Position No. 3 — Roy Clary of Spokane

Position No. 5 — Breean Beggs of Spokane

Position No. 6 — Tony Hazel of Spokane

Position No. 7 — Jacquelyn High-Edward of Spokane

Position No. 8 — Marla L. Polin of Mead

Position No. 9 — Jeremy T. Schmidt of Mead

Position No. 10 — Michelle Szambelan of Spokane

Position No. 11 — Andrew B. Van Winkle, Jerry Scharosch and F. Dayle Andersen, all of Spokane

Position No. 12 — Rachelle Anderson of Spokane
