Track team competes at invitational
CHENEY — The track and field took a slimmed-down team to Hart Field on March 23 for the Lewis and Clark Invite but still came away with some notable results.
With what head coach Derek Slaughter called a “diminished squad due to 7v7 football, PNQ Volleyball and club basketball,” the Blackhawks landed both school and personal records.
Calvin Hilton’s 1:59.21 was good for both a win and personal record in the 800 meters.
A 10:50.03 time from Lucas Matos, Kordell Laher, Ethan Martin and Hilton meant a new school record in the 4,000 meters.
Eugene Hennequin landed a personal record of 20-11 to win the long jump while Jonah Ward’s 147-5.5 flight was runner-up in the javelin.
For the girls, Maggie Boggs, Hannah Ward, Isabella Adaszewski and Karlee Pope established a new school record in the 4x800 relay in a time of 10:07.02.
Clara Browne hurled the discus a school record 114:10.5 and followed that with a runner-up toss of 106-08 in the javelin.
Hannah Ward recorded a 12:13.46, a personal record and second place in the 3,200 meters.
She would team with Karlee Pope, Lakia Heward and Emma Ayers to finish runner-up in the 4X400 relay in 4:23.51.
Cheney takes the upcoming spring break off from competition.
“We’re ready to make the push with the team after spring break,” Slaughter wrote in an email. “That is what I call the regular season for track and field.”
