SWIMMING

Local swimmers advance

WALLA WALLA — Twelve Cheney swimmers have qualified for the 2024 District Swim and Dive meet Feb. 9-10 here.

“I have not yet completed the line up since some swimmers are qualified in more than the maximum two events” Coach Jennifer Hochwalt wrote in an email.

Cheney swimmers include Isaac Bishop, Elijah Carpenter, Henrey Gipple, Anthony Gonzalez, Arthur Huacuz, Sam Larson

Tanner Nelson, Christian Samson, Alma Smith, Ian Smith, Artem Sokolov and Travis Strimback

State swimming is Feb. 15-17 at the King County Aquatic Center.

WRESTLING:

Six Cardinals reach regionals

QUINCY — Six Medical Lake wrestlers will compete in the 1A regionals Saturday, Feb. 10, at Quincy High School

Topping the list is True Cole, who was district runner-up at 215 pounds. Three Medical Lake competitors will go as third-place finishers from district competition Feb. 3 on their home floor. They are Trayden Tonasket (120), Liam Horne (126) and Ethan Bales (190).

The group also included Carsen Buenzli (157) and Michael Kiester (165) who were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Lancers move on to regionals

SPOKANE — Liberty will have its entire boys wrestling team in their home gym in Spangle on Saturday, Feb. 10, after qualifying for the 1B/2B regionals.

Regional qualifiers include Chance Degon at 106, Moxon Strobel at 138, Maddex Storbel and Thorne Tissue at 150, Clae Holling at 165, Reed Whidman and Joey Matherly at 175 and Coleman Green at 190. In addition, Raymond Lasz qualified as an alternate at 138.

The Lancers are led by Maddex Strobel, Clae Holling and Joey Matherly, all of whom won district gold medals at their weights.
