Southridge rallies past Cheney

Stinson scores 23 points in Kennewick

KENNEWICK – A strong fourth quarter carried Southridge to a 65-61 non-league basketball victory over Cheney on the road, Dec. 29.

The game with the Mid-Columbia Conference Suns (4-5) was the final before the start of Greater Spokane League play Jan. 4 when the Blackhawks host Ferris (2-6) at 7:30 p.m.

Southridge used a 22-11 fourth quarter to get past Cheney (5-5), which led 50-43 after three quarters.

“We didn’t do a good enough job getting stops and sprinting back in transition,” head coach Travis Peavey wrote in an email, adding, “We allowed Southridge to do what they wanted instead of dictating the tempo how we wanted it to go.”

Evan Stinson’s 23 points, including four 3-pointers for the Blackhawks who saw a four-game win streak snapped. Carter Ittner (9 points) and Grayson Burton (8) were other Cheney players close to cracking double figures.

“Playing 8 out of 10 on the road in non-league was tough but it helped us learn how to play with adversity and it should benefit us going forward,” Peevey said.
