Cheney council approves land trade

Mobile home park, city to swap acreage

CHENEY – The city has been involved in ongoing negotiations regarding a land transaction between the City of Cheney and North Cheney Mobile Home Park.

Resolution F-216 moves to have 1 acre of city owned property in the Cheney Industrial Park exchanged for nearly 7 acres along Cheney Spangle Road.

That property is located between Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific Railroad lines.

Based on Scout-Spokane County Assessed Valuation, the city-owned property is valued at $17,420.

The property owned by the mobile home park is valued at $36,540, according to assessment reports.

According to Public Works Director Todd Ableman, the proposal came about after Todd Tarbert with the mobile home park bought the 6.94 acres.

Ableman said officials located some water lines running through the parcel, making development difficult.

“He (Todd Tarbert) bought the land along Cheney Spangle Road., and he was looking to start developing that,” Ableman said.

“But what we ran into is that we do have water that runs there.”

Ableman also said the mobile home park may eventually buy two other 1-acre plots, as there is plan to potentially develop the land.
