Airway Heights WinterFest delights

Guests show up despite snowy weather

AIRWAY HEIGHTS - The annual Airway Heights WinterFest, organized by Airway Heights Parks and Recreation, kicked off on December 1 and 2, transforming the snowy landscape into a festive winter wonderland for local residents.

On the evening of December 1, the community gathered to brave the winter chill and partake in the cherished tradition of the annual tree lighting and fireworks show.

Against the backdrop of falling snowflakes, families watched in awe as the towering evergreen sparkled to life with bright Christmas lights, accompanied by a dazzling display of fireworks that painted the night sky.

Adding to the festive atmosphere, this year's WinterFest featured live music from the band Ainikien Jilel, which translates to Sounds of Trumpet. Undeterred by the challenging weather conditions, the band braved the elements to provide a lively soundtrack, enhancing the joyful spirit of the event.

Children, bundled up in winter gear, gathered around to witness the magical moment when the tree lit up, their faces aglow with excitement. A sense of warmth permeated the air, not just from the crackling open fire pit but also from the shared joy of the community coming together.

As the snow continued to fall, attendees were treated to steaming cups of hot cocoa, providing a comforting respite from the winter chill. The communal fire pit offered a cozy spot for friends and families to gather, creating a sense of camaraderie amid the frosty festivities.

The winter celebration continued on December 2 at the Airway Heights Recreation Center, where families were welcomed for a hearty breakfast and the opportunity to capture memorable moments with Santa Claus. Some children eagerly approached the jolly figure in red, excitedly sharing their Christmas wishes, while others observed with a mix of curiosity and caution.

Pancakes were served up hot, offering a delicious and warming treat for attendees seeking reprieve from the chilly weather. Laughter and joy filled the recreation center as families shared breakfast, children chatted with Santa, and the spirit of the season enveloped the community.

Despite the wintry conditions, the Airway Heights WinterFest proved once again to be a beloved tradition that brings residents together, creating lasting memories and fostering a sense of community spirit in the face of the season's challenges.
