Airway Heights receives grants for improving transportation, policing

In a recent meeting on Monday, December 4, 2023, the Airway Heights City Council took significant strides in fortifying community initiatives through approved grant funding and a generous donation.

Heather Trautman, the principal planner, announced the green light for a $200,000 grant earmarked for 6th Avenue and hinted at the possibility of securing an additional $2 million for a transportation project.

She expressed optimism, stating, “We’ve gotten a grant for 6th avenue for $200k. We also might get $2 million for our transportation project.”

The Police Chief brought forth another pivotal development, seeking approval for a $200,000 grant generously funded by the Chamber of Commerce.

“We want you to accept this grant for $200k. This will give us funding for overtime for our officers, police adventure league, and project management and data collection.”

This grant is strategically designed to fortify the community through various avenues, including enhanced police services, support for the Police Adventure League, and vital funding for project management and data collection.

In a laudable display of community support, Dairy Queen demonstrated a commitment to the well-being of Airway Heights by contributing a $3,000 donation specifically for the Police Adventure League.

The collaboration between the community and local businesses was emphasized by Mayor Larry Bowman, who noted, “We’ve worked diligently with our community. They’re going to have a large donation from Dairy Queen. They gave us $3,000 for the police adventure league.”
