Airway Heights passes fiscal resolutions for 2024

During the Airway Heights City Council meeting on Monday, December 4, 2023, the focus shifted to critical fiscal matters as the council addressed proposed ordinances and resolutions.

City Finance Director Stanley Schubert and City Manager Albert Tripp provided insights into forthcoming changes, ranging from salary increases and the hiring of additional firefighters to improvements in customer service.

Tripp highlighted, “This proposed ordinance seeks to hire two additional firefighters; it also seeks to improve customer service. There is a minimum wage increase next year, and we are studying the impact of that.”

A pivotal proposed ordinance, C-1012, aims to set positions, salaries, and compensation for employees for the fiscal year 2024.

Another ordinance, C-1013, focuses on amending the budget for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2023.

These initiatives represent crucial steps in managing the city’s finances, ensuring transparency, and responsibly allocating resources.

Public Works Director Kevin Anderson emphasized, “This is a resolution that you’re aware that you will have to pay back the loans,” underscoring the financial responsibility inherent in the city’s decision-making.

The City Council delved further into resolutions related to ecology, outlining comprehensive plans for water reuse systems, tank elimination, and loan repayments.

The unanimous passing of a resolution suspending the transfer of funds for fire equipment reflects the council’s commitment to prudent fiscal management.
