CHENEY – A 16 year old is facing two felony charges after threatening to bomb a local school.

Law enforcement agencies swiftly neutralized a juvenile bomb threat in Cheney, Washington, on Wednesday, November 16th, 2023.

The Cheney Police Department received a report at approximately 2:50 pm from a juvenile claiming to have constructed three improvised explosive devices intended for use at a local school.

The Cheney police worked in conjunction with the Airway Heights Police Department, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, Fairchild 92nd Security Forces, and the City of Spokane Police Department.

The joint operation successfully executed search warrants, leading to the recovery of all three improvised explosive devices.

Two devices were found at a residence within the City of Cheney, while the third was located at a residence in Spokane County.

In light of the threat, the WIN Academy underwent a meticulous search, facilitated by a military working dog specializing in explosive detection.

The thorough search confirmed the absence of any potential danger.

As a precautionary measure, Cheney Middle School and Transportation facilities were also carefully searched and declared free from threats.

Law enforcement authorities have affirmed that the district and schools are now safe, allowing the resumption of normal operations without any lingering threat to the public.

The juvenile suspect involved in the incident is currently in custody, a development that ensures a swift resolution to the alarming situation.
