Cheney's co-op members lead in pool

FEDERAL WAY – Co-op swimmers from surrounding schools delivered three state championships for the Cheney High School swim program staged at the King County Aquatics Center, Nov. 10-11.

Brigid Dinnen from 2A East Valley won the 100 freestyle (52.53) and was runner-up in the 200 (1:54.22).

Co-op swimmers are from area schools without swimming programs but compete in the Cheney program.

Lewis and Clark’s Ava Swigart collected wins at the 4A level in both the 200 and 500-meter freestyle in respective times of 1:51.82 and 5:02.63.

Swigart was also part of the 200-meter freestyle team along with Anjali Richards, Morgan Herr and Anya Atkinson that finished 14th in 1:47.06.

Blackhawks’ swimmers were led by Lauren Howe who was fourth on the 50-meter freestyle (24.50) and 13th in the 100-meter freestyle (54.71).

Howe anchored Cheney’s 200-meter freestyle relay team with Madi Bauman, Bethany Bleam and Kate Kissell which finished 16th in 1:46.83.

She also teamed with Bleam, Bauman and Sophie Schaefer for a 16th place in the 400-meter freestyle relay with a time of 3:54.75.

“(It was a) great way to end the season, all the girls did well,” Coach Jennifer Hochwalt wrote in an email.
