Teens urged to serve as Senate pages for next session

OLYMPIA… Sen. Mark Schoesler is encouraging teenagers in the 9th Legislative District to apply to become a Senate page during the upcoming 2024 legislative session in Olympia.

Schoesler, R-Ritzville, is allowed to sponsor several students as pages during the 60-day session, which starts Jan. 8 and ends March 7.

“Being a page during a legislative session is a great way to see the state Legislature in action and learn how it functions,” said Schoesler. “Pages have a chance to meet and work with other pages from around the state and make new friends. Plus, you earn a nice amount of money for the week’s work that you do at the Capitol.”

During their one week of work at the Capitol, pages deliver messages and perform other tasks that allow senators and staff to focus on legislative duties. Pages spend two hours each day in page school learning about the legislative process.

To be a page, students or homeschooled students need to be at least 14 years old and have not reached their 17th birthday.

Students interested in becoming a page should call Schoesler’s office at 360-786-7620.
