Cheney swimmers take second

Pullman win girls meet in Clarkston

CLARKSTON - Cheney and Medical Lake swimmers were among those competing Friday, Oct. 20, in a girls meet at the Asotin Family Aquatic Center.

Seven schools were represented at the meet – Pullman, Cheney, Clarkston, Lewis and Clark, Medical Lake, East Valley (Spokane Valley) and St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse.

Pullman won the meet with 322 points, followed by Cheney with 278 and Clarkston third with 145.

The Lewis and Clark, East Valley (Spokane Valley), Medical Lake and St. John-Endicott/LaCrosse swimmers compete as part of the Blackhawks team.

Cheney swimmers Lauren Howe and Madi Bauman each collected individual wins.

Howe won the 50-yard freestyle while Bauman took the 200-yard intermediate medley as Cheney finished runner-up to Pullman 322-278 in season standings.

Other wins came from Brigid Dinnen (East Valley) in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke as well as Ava Swigart (Lewis and Clark) in the 200-yard freestyle.

Having completed league swimming for 2023, area athletes turn attention to postseason.

This weekend 2A swimmers will be competing at Washington State University at Gibb Pool for the 2A District Championship.

The 3A/4A swimmers will be at Whitman College at Harvey Pool for district championships.
