Cardinals start strong, fade against Lakeside

Volleyball team heads into postseason

MEDICAL LAKE – The girls volleyball team hung with Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls), one of the top teams in the Northeast A League, for the opening game.

But following that 25-19 setback the fire slowly cooled as the Eagles (10-2 NEA, 11-3 overall) swept the Cardinals (3-9, 3-14) on Senior Night, Oct. 19 with wins of 25-13 and 25-8.

In the opening game the Cardinals got within 16-15 before the Eagles finished with a 9-4 run.

Subsequent games saw Medical Lake start slow and never recover. They trailed 11-4 but closed to 17-11 in the second game. In game three ML trailed 11-4 and never got out of single digits for the game.

Trinity Ackerman led the Cards with nine digs, Madi Spring eight assists while Zoe Wilson and Tessa Appel each had five kills.

The Cardinals did earn a post-season berth, but it was back at Lakeside on Oct. 25 in a loser-out contest.

The newspaper went to press before game time.
