General cleanup beginning at pool

Bids for demolition coming soon

CHENEY – Fencing and dumpsters are in place at the city pool as general cleanup is set to begin according to City Administrator Mark Schuller.

“Right now it’s just city staff going in and doing some cleanup,” Schuller said. “They are removing lighter debris right now.”

“We will be looking into bids for complete demolition shortly.”

Contractor bids may be taken as early as next week according to Schuller, but the actual work timeline will depend on other things.

Schuller also said the city had to get an asbestos survey to check for hazardous materials, and there was an existing boiler containing asbestos. So that will also have to be taken care of according to Schuller.

“Obviously we can take several bids to get numbers,” Schuller said. “But then we have to take the winning bid to council for approval.”

“The contractor schedules may also impact the demolition time.”

The city is working to expedite the process so they can meet the anticipated timeline.
