Crusaders rout Lancers, 42-7

SPANGLE – The Liberty boys football team slipped another notch in the league Friday, Oct. 6, falling to No. 1 state-ranked Northwest Christian (Colbert).

The Crusaders (6-0) rolled to an easy 42-7 victory over the Lancers (2-4).

Ryan Waters led the Crusaders with two rushing touchdowns in the Northeast 2B league game.

This Friday, Oct. 13, the Lancers travel to Chewelah to play the Jenkins Cougars (2-4).

Jenkins is ranked No. 22 in state Class 2B and Liberty is No. 29.

Hanegan runs at Lewis and Clark

LEWISTON, Idaho – The Liberty Lancers had only one runner compete in the Inland Empire Challenge cross country meet Saturdaay.

Junior Mitchell Hanegan finished 43rd overall, completing the 5,000-meter race in 17:55 at Lewis and Clark State College.

Lancer runners will next compete Friday, Oct. 13, at the 1B/2B League Championships at the Colfax Golf Club.

High school races start at noon.

Deer Park starts fast in win over Medical Lake

Medical Lake spotted the Deer Park Stags the game’s first 40 points by halftime and cruised to a 47-14 Northeast A League football win Oct. 6 in Deer Park.

Kaden Rudy broke the shutout with his 17-yard run in the fourth quarter and Josh Henry added a 25-yard fumble recovery for the Cardinals’ points.

Medical Lake was outgained 351 to 127 as Henry led Cardinal receivers with four catches and 65 yards. Cylas Puzycki added 56 yards on 18 carries for ML.

Medical Lake (0-4 NEA, 0-6 overall) hosts NEA leading Lakeside (3-0, 5-0) for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Homecoming.

Blackhawks blanked at ONE Spokane

Cheney soccer got to test out the new ONE Spokane Stadium Oct. 4 losing to Lewis and Clark 4-0.

The Tigers had a 3-0 halftime lead and outshot Cheney 19-7.

The Blackhawks (2-4 GSL, 5-6 overall) were on the road this week at Ferris, Oct. 11.

VOLLEYBALL

Blackhawks topped by Saxons, Falcons

Cheney volleyball dropped a pair of 3-0 Greater Spokane League matches last week to Ferris and Ridgeline.

Haleigh Ghering had double-digit assists (18) to lead Cheney which lost by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-12.

Ghering’s 24 assists and Kristen Emert’s 14 digs were not enough to turn things against Ridgeline which prevailed 25-18, 26-24 and 25-23.

Next up for Cheney were and Oct. 10 meeting at University and hosting University Oct. 11 at 7 p.m.

Cardinals have winless week

Medical Lake volleyball three matches last week, one in non-league and the others in Northeast A League play.

The Cardinals dropped a 3-1 decision Oct. 2 to Davenport and then 3-1 by the same score to Colville the following night. ML fell 3-0 to league leading Freeman 3-0 on Oct. 5

The Northeast 2B League Gorillas moved to a 2-0 lead of wins of 25-21 and 25-23. The Cardinals stayed alive with a 25-23 win in the third set before losing by the same score in the decider.

Double-digit scorers for the Cardinals included Trinity Auckerman who recorded 25 digs while Madi Spring added 13 assists.

Colville broke from a 1-1 tie in their match with wins of 25-22 and 29-27 as Aukerman had 13 digs and Tessa Appel 13 kills.

Medical Lake (2-6 NEA, 2-11 overall) got a seven-assist night from Spring against Freeman.

The Cardinals hosted Newport for a match Oct. 10, travel to Deer Park Oct. 12. They finish with home matches Oct. 14 (Riverside) and Oct. 19 (Lakeside).
