Gertrude (Glines) Moe, a long-time resident of the Amber community, passed away on Sept. 27, two months after celebrating her 101st birthday. She was born in Kansas on July 21, 1922, and her family moved to Washington State when she was a young girl.
She married Leslie Moe in 1940, and they moved to Amber when he was employed by the railroad. They had two children, Ruth and Ron, who attended Amber School, where Gertrude prepared hot lunch for the students for a number of years until the school closed.
She lived at Amber nearly all the rest of her life and liked being in the country where she could enjoy the gardening she loved. Gertrude is survived by grandsons Darren Moe (Mia Lisa), great-grandson Henrik; Derek Moe (Serena); and daughter-in-law Myrna Moe, all of the San Diego area. Also granddaughter Ann Huber (Leon Wong) and great-granddaughter Caroline Wong of San Francisco.
Gertrude is also survived by sister Maxine Watson (Chelan) and sister-in-law Yvonne Glines, Finley Wash. Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband Leslie, daughter Ruth Huber, and son Ronald Moe; also brothers Clifford, Jack, and Raymond Glines, and sister Louise Ashby.
Thank you to the staff at Classy Retreat for their excellent care of Gertrude and to family and friends who visited and called regularly.
A very special thank you to Jennifer Dahl, a longtime Amber friend, who visited, drove her to appts. and sometimes stopped at Perkins for a big breakfast afterward.
She made sure Gertrude had everything she needed, day or night..
