Loss to Gonzaga Prep snaps Blackhawks' recent shutout string

Cheney hosts Central Valley in Spangle

CHENEY – The girls soccer team saw its two-game winning streak snapped Sept. 25 in a 5-1 loss in a Greater Spokane League match at Gonzaga Prep.

The league leading Bullpups (3-0 GSL/5-1 overall) built a 4-0 lead before Kylee Hahn connected in the 50th minute for the Blackhawks (1-2/3-4).

The Blackhawks won earlier in the week in Greater Spokane League play, 4-0, over Central Valley on Sept. 20. And keeper Clara Browne strung together a second consecutive shutout in a Sept. 22 non-league win, 3-0, over Class 1A team Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls).

The Central Valley contest was played at Liberty High School in Spangle to honor Lancer seniors, Ellie Hatch and Grace Grumbly.

Both girls attend Liberty, but play for the Blackhawks.

Alex Miller scored three times for Cheney with Megan Collins adding the third. Browne had three saves.

Kayelee Kohlman gave Cheney its lead at halftime with a goal in the 30th minute.

Alex Miller and Jaidyn Low added respective scores in the 62nd and 77th minutes to seal the win.

Browne was credited with nine saves.

Cheney was at North Central on Sept. 27 and returns home to host Ridgeline at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at Tom Oswald Field.
