Bison bounce Eagles in opener

From staff and news service sources

MINNEAPOLIS — Back in 2010 the North Dakota State Bison left Cheney for Fargo following a bitter and controversial 38-31 loss in the second round of the FCS playoffs at snowy Roos Field.

The No. 2 ranked Bison have never forgotten it seems.

They reminded the Eagles once more who’s the likely still the king-of-the-FCS-hill following their 35-10 season opening win in a non-conference game at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Sept. 2.

Trailing 14-0, receiver Nolan Ulm scored Eastern’s lone touchdown on a 34-yard strike from Kekoa Visperas in the first quarter.

The Eagles threatened several other times — including a blocked 41-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter — but couldn’t muster any damage on the scoreboard against a stout NDSU defense.

NDSU added a score in each of the subsequent quarters including Joe Stoffel’s second TD catch.

NDSU led in total offense 513 to 338 in the game played before a crowd of 22,546.

The Eagles are back on the road next Saturday to take on Fresno State for a 6 p.m. kick and play their first home game at Roos Field Sept. 16 vs. S.E. Louisiana.
