Teen bites Loss Prevention Clerk during Theft

SPOKANE VALLEY — A 15-year-old suspect has been booked into Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for first-degree robbery and third-degree theft on Aug. 7

On August 7, 2023, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Spokane Valley Deputies responded to a theft call that escalated to a robbery when an as-yet unnamed 15-year-old suspect fought with store loss prevention staff and a resident when confronted for attempting to steal nearly $100.00 of alcohol.

The suspect fought efforts to detain him and bit one of the employee’s forearms, leaving a bite mark.

Deputies arrived and contacted the employees who had the 15-year-old suspect detained. The employees explained they were alerted via radio that a young male had picked up multiple bottles of alcohol and was attempting to steal them.

One employee became involved when he observed an unidentified customer struggling with the suspect.

The suspect made it past all points of sale while resisting and attempting to flee. As the employees worked to gain control, the suspect bit one of them on his forearm.

He was eventually detained after a brief struggle and brought to the security office.

Deputies reviewed video footage, which confirmed the accounts of the incident. The value of the three bottles of Crown Royal totaled approximately $98.00.

Unable to question the juvenile due to Washington State law, he was transported and booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center for Robbery 1st Degree and Theft 3rd Degree charges.
