Volunteers benefit Blue Waters

MEDICAL LAKE – The Blue Waters Bluegrass festival is coming up quickly, and it takes a big team of volunteers to make the event happen according to organizers.

According to Blue Waters President, Nick Burgis, the volunteers are an extremely important part of the festival.

"Our volunteers help in nearly every aspect of the festival," Burgis said. "From setting up the stage to attending the front gate, we have a lot of volunteer opportunities."

Volunteers can sign up as part of the crew that sets up and tears down the stage. Anyone with experience or an interest in sales can volunteer to help at the merchandise tent or with ticket sales.

An assistant host is also needed to oversee the two campgrounds on site. This person will be responsible for helping visitors find camping spots, directing them to the front gate and ensuring that everyone has a paid sticker or tag.

People are also needed to help check volunteers in and determine their task load for each day they work.

Volunteers can also sign up to drive people back and forth in golf carts, but volunteers must have a valid driver's license. These volunteers will drive visitors from their cars to the festival grounds. This is often quite a distance as the festival has grown over the years.

Parking attendants are also needed to direct traffic and help festival goers find parking.

All of these volunteer positions are also granted an entry pass based on the hours volunteered.

"We give anyone that volunteers a free pass to the event," Burgis said. "Anyone that volunteers for eight hours gets a weekend pass, and anyone that volunteers for four hours gets a free day pass."
