SPOKANE VALLEY – Jessica Yaeger was sitting in first place after the initial tally of ballots returned in the Aug. 1 primary election for City Council Position No. 2.

As of Tuesday night, Yaeger had 5,788 votes, 51.85%. She was ahead of Rachel Briscoe with 2,897 votes, 25.95%, and Adam Smith with 2,374 votes, 21.26%.

Only Smith could be reached for comment Tuesday night.

“I’m very happy. I have spent zero dollars on marketing,” he said. “So, I am pretty excited. This isn’t something I had planned on being the first thing in my life, but I want to fight for what I think is right...
