SPOKANE VALLEY – After the first day of counting ballots in the Aug. 1 primary election, a local woman tops the race for the West Valley School District Director No. 3 position.

Amy Anselmo logged 1,380 votes, 55.67%, in the first night of counting. She's ahead of John Dubois with 635 votes, 25.62%, and Tricia Phillips with 432 votes, 17.43%.

Anselmo couldn't be reached for comment.

But DuBois said he's excited about being No. 2 at this point in the election process; only the Top 2 qualify for the Nov. 7 general election.
