Cheney election results rolling in

Early primary election results have started coming in, and several contested races are on the ballot.

The seat for Cheney School Board District 4 has John Boerger currently leading with 35.74%.

Bill Hanson currently sits in second with 32.16%, and Rick Flynn has 30.86% of votes.

Bill Hanson said he has learned a lot after deciding to run.

“I am really excited to be at this point and holding on to second place,” Hanson said. “It took a lot of work to get here with all of the interviews and questions from voters. I am honored the community is putting their trust behind me.”

Rick Flynn said he is hoping he can gain some votes moving forward and potentially work his way into the second spot.

“I’m looking forward to more votes coming in,” Flynn said. “I am hoping I can get enough to move on to the general election, and beyond that where I can hopefully make decisions for the voters.”

The seat for the District 5 position also has three candidates and Mitch Swenson is currently in the lead by a large margin with 51.43% of votes.

Ivan Khala sits in second with 24.11%, and Bill Lathrop has 23.42%. Only 32 votes separate the second and third place candidates.

Ivan Khala said it is important for voters to look outside of their normal avenues.

"People tend to stick with what they know," Khala said. "It's essential for voters to break patterns that keep them locked in on the same candidates all the time. It can be frustrating."

According to Khala, it is important for board members to have kids in the district they want to represent because it gives them a direct connection.

Cheney Proposition 1 is also seeing early support with over 67% of voters in favor of the measure.
