Mercer Island won the Washington State Little League Juniors Championship today with their victory over Everett at Holliday Field in Medical Lake.

MEDICAL LAKE - Today was championship Saturday in the Washington State Little League Juniors Tournament, as District 9 Mercer Island topped District 1 Everett at Holliday Field.

It was a championship game all around, and hard fought by both teams. Everett jumped to an early 5-2 lead and held that for the first two innings.

Mercer Island battled back in the third to bring the game to within one, as the score stood 5-4 with Everett still leading.

On to the fourth inning, and Everett was still unable to add any more runs. Mercer Island continued to rally.

Scoring three runs in the fourth, Mercer Island finally took the lead 7-5.

They went on to win the state championship 9-6, and will go on to represent Washington in the Little League Regional Tournament in central Oregon.
