State Little League tournament a Homerun for Medical Lake

Cameron Leslie on the Skagit Woolley Anacortes Team brought the heat as the pitcher during the first game of the little league state tournament.

MEDICAL LAKE - Once upon a time a mere 140 years ago, people flocked to Medical Lake on the railroad and electric trolley to experience its supposed healing waters.

Pioneers Andrew LeFevre and Stanley Hallett promoted the lake for medicinal uses oil the 1880s, when springs and spas were popular everywhere.

A century ago the fervor wore off and Medical Lake turned more like the community as we know it today.

And while a visit from a group of about 350 athletes, coaches and families of 10 teams visiting for a week at the Washington State Little League Juniors will not rebirth the magic water...
