Rough time at Wood Bat for Cannons

The week's results left the Cannons with a 22-10 overall record, 12-0 in league play and regular season champs. Spokane has four wins in its past 10 games.

"I learned that we're gonna' have to get guys ready to step up and play some important roles going forward with our injuries," head coach Austin Sharp wrote in a text message. "We still have a lot of weapons on this team, we pitched well all year and I am excited to see these guys come playoff time," he added.

Cannons 2, Pullman 1 (June 27): In a race with severe weather, the Cannons won in two ways. They snuck in the first game of an Area 3, AAA Division doubleheader to remain undefeated. Jacob Bell and Kaleb Cain each had a hit and drove in the Cannon runs.

Cannons 10, Whatcom Post 7 1 (June 29): In a warmup for the Wood Bat Classic, the Cannons broke away from a close game with a pair of runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth as Jacob Bell went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.

AHP 11, Cannons 9 (June 30): Spokane made the most of just four hits and 10 walks in a wild opening-game Wood Bat loss to the Alberta Baseball Academy. Cameron Windhorst drove in two runs with a hit in the Wood Bat opener of the Medical Lake Pod at Holliday Field.

SEEBA 6, Cannons 3 (June 30): Again the Cannons were limited to just four hits, two of those from Eli Chabot as Spokane played catch up after the Edmonton, Alberta-based team had a 3-0 lead after their first at-bat.

Riverdogs (Ephrata) 5, Cannons 3 (July 1): Eli Chabot had a 3-for-3 day and Carson Jeffries went 2-for-2 but the Cannons committed four errors that played into the loss.

Cannons 13, Whatcom Post 7 2 (July 1): Jamel Chabot had a 3-for-3 day at the plate with a pair of runs scored and an RBI as the Cannon's once again punished the visitors from Bellingham. Clinton Zimmerman (2-for-3, 3 RBI) and Andrew Roberts (2-for-2, 2 RBI) back dJay Bell's five-inning complete game.

Pendleton 5, Cannons 4 (July 2): A three-run fourth powered Pendleton past the Cannons in a game at Hart Field. Eli Chabot and Kaleb Cain each had a pair of hits.

Summer Hawks are solid at Wood Bat

The Cheney Summer Hawks AA has put together a solid last 10 games with seven victories, including four in the Wood Bat Classic that earned them no official honors but some notice from their coach.

"Unfortunately, you play that well and don't see anything for it," head coach Rob Beamer wrote in a text message. "But we had a lot of learning experiences and our team grew so much," he added.

The Summer Hawks, 9-3 in Area 3 AA league play trail Mead (11-2) by 1.5 games and are a half game back of Chewelah (7-0).

CDA Lumbermen 2, Cheney 1 (June 30): CDA broke a scoreless tie with runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth. Cheney made it close with a run when Tank Best converted a leadoff walk into a run off of Jake Swanson's RBI single.

Cheney 9, Spok. Crew Yellow 0 (June 30): Tate Heuschkel pitched a five-inning complete game shutout scattering four hits and striking out nine. Cheney scored in their first three at-bats and were led by Jace Ulrich's 2-for-3 day at the plate with two RBI. Dawes Hanson's double drove in a pair of runs.

Cheney 10, West Valley 0 (July 1): The Summer Hawks unloaded for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning, earning them an inning off because of the 10-run rule. Tate Heuschkel, Tyler Ashcroft, Grayson Burton, Dawes Hanson, Coleman Randles and Jace Ulrich each had two-hits with Burton driving in four runs.

Cheney 14, Whatcom Co. 1 (July 2): Eight runs in the third blew this game up with Tate Heuschkel and Coleman Randles stroking a pair of hits while Jace Vega and Dawes Hanson each had a pair of RBI.

Cheney 6, Walla Walla 1 (July 2): Tate Heuschkel pitched a complete game.

Cheney A's closes in on title

Cheney 15U Summer Hawks will head into their final Area 3 A league games in the lead with two to play July 7 at Mead. Cheney is 12-2 overall.

In three recent games, one a doubleheader and another a makeup - all against North Central - Cheney swept all three 17-4, 16-5 and 7-3.

In the doubleheader it was pitchers who had the notable efforts, head coach Aaron Rockey wrote in a text message. Carter Owens had five strikeouts while Ben Bean and Kobe Hunter three each. Kolby Simmons had a 1-2-3 inning Rockey noted.

Dirt Dogs streaking

The Medical Lake Dirt Dawgs A American Legion team had a 13-game winning streak snapped July 1 at Trail, B.C. but have still been quit formidable winning nine of their last 10 outings.

Dirt Dawgs 16, Reardan 1 (June 27): Medical Lake powered past Reardan breaking a scoreless game with a five-run third, adding three in the fourth and eight in the fifth to earn a 10-run rule victory at Reardan. Levi Brower went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Zach Boyd (2-for-4) scored three and drove in three while Cooper Danekas (2-for-3) drove in a pair.

Dirt Dawgs 14, Gonzaga Prep 4 (June 29): Two big innings, a five-run third and four-run sixth rallied Medical Lake. Ian Thompson, AJ Michaud, Cooper Danekas , Zach Boyd, Levi Brower and Cruz Gomez all had two hits. Danekas drove in three to lead the Dirt Dawgs and also pitched five innings with six strikeouts.

Trail 16, Dirt Dawgs 6 (July 1): Five-run innings in both the third and fifth innings rallied Trail past Medical Lake on Dominion Day - Canadian Independence - at Trail in the first game of a doubleheader. Ian Thompson (3-for-3, two runs scored) and Aiden Fontenot (2-for-3) were the only DD's with multiple hits.

Dirt Dawgs 12, Trail 6 (July 1): Medical Lake was the home team in the second game and broke open a close game - 3-2 ML - with four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to earn the non-league split. AJ Michaud and Levi Brower both were 3-for-4, Michaud scored three while Brower drove in three. Michaud also pitched a complete seven-inning game.
