Let 'er Buck! It's rodeo week

Thousands expected for Cheney Rodeo

CHENEY – With rodeo weekend fast approaching, there are a few things to take note of prior to the event.

The breakaway roping slack scheduled for July 7 has been updated to begin at 10 a.m. to accommodate the large number of contestants.

Contestants in this event are asked to leave promptly afterwards to free up some parking spaces for the barrel racers. Contact the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association with any questions.

There have also been some issues with tickets this year according to organizers.

Anyone looking to buy tickets needs to make sure they are not getting scammed. According to rodeo organizers someone is trying to sell fake tickets at a price of $50 each.

They say to disregard any posts that claim this because those tickets and the posts selling them are not real.

Organizers said the only valid website to buy from is cheneyrodeo.com/tickets and tickets are only $20 in advance, not $50. Tickets will go up to $30 if bought at the gate.

People can buy in person tickets as well from Wild Bill’s Longbar, 405 1st St. That location is also exclusively selling the 2023 Cheney Rodeo hat.

Other ticket vendors include three Bi-Mart locations. Stores in Cheney, Deer Park and Rathdrum are also selling the tickets.

Rodeo decorations can be found across many of the local businesses throughout Cheney during rodeo week.

The 4th annual window painting contest has been judged, and first-time participant The Wellness Vault was voted the winner.

Other groups are utilizing the large crowd to help boost their own efforts as well.

The Friends of the Cheney Library will be celebrating rodeo weekend by having their annual rodeo days book sale on July 7 and 8.

The library doors will be open, and thousands of items will be available for purchase at 610 1st St.

Sale hours will run 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 7, and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 8.

The group is currently seeking volunteers to help out with the sale.

Volunteers have also been working hard to clear up and finalize the preparation of the rodeo grounds. Visitors and attendees are asked to please clean up after themselves when leaving.
