Council approves library roof

MEDICAL LAKE – After some trouble with the initial effort to replace the roof, another work estimate has been accepted by city council.

The city has been discussing an estimate from All Terrain Roofing, LLC out of Spokane according to Public Works Director Scott Duncan. They presented an estimate April 30 and is priced at $39,204.

The measure was voted through during the June 20 council session after a brief presentation by Duncan.

The contract is to remove the old roofing and install new more weather effective shingles.

The price given is set for a specific workload and may increase depending on a couple of factors. If extra layers are found during the removal phase, the price could increase by $50 per square foot.

The project was originally awarded to Kodiak Roofing, but after they presented multiple delays and then went out of business the process of taking estimates started over.

“Kodiak took their time in getting the bid put together,” Duncan said. “And then when the day came to do the work they gave us a three-week delay.”

The troubles with that company continued according to Duncan.

“Then they gave us another three-week delay and then went out of business, so the whole process started over.”
