Cheney hires two new policemen

CHENEY — Two new officers joined the Police Department as lateral transfers.

Ian Sauve, 33, and Dennis Sanchez, 45, were sworn in and welcomed to the city June 5.

Sauve previously worked more than six years with the Bellevue Police Department, where he specialized as a field training officer and served as an honor guard Member.

“I was referred by two former coworkers who transferred from Bellevue,” Sauve said. “They raved about the positive atmosphere and how they love the men and women they work alongside.

“After I did a ride along, I made the tough decision to lateral and I am so excited for this new journey.”

A U.S. Army veteran, Sanchez previously worked in Idaho with the Rathdrum and Post Falls police departments and was the Spirit Lake police chief for the last five years.

“I have heard so incredible things about this department, from the family like atmosphere within the department to how welcoming the City of Cheney community is,” Sanchez said. “I knew I wanted to work here.”

He said he is excited and ready to serve the community and make a positive impact.

When he is not on duty Sanchez enjoys spending time with his family and outdoor activities, he said.

Both officers are in the field training program and are expected to be released to solo patrol in the months to come.
