Elk Meadows Estates opens

SPOKANE VALLEY – The doors have been opened to new homeownership opportunities in Spokane Valley, and this was celebrated with a ribbon cutting held by the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Elk Meadows Estates is the newest neighborhood addition to Spokane Valley. Built by D.R. Builders, the development adds 331 home sites to the area that are now up for sale.

Reed Couch is the Vice President of City Operations with D.R. Horton, explained how long the company has had a foothold in Spokane.

"On a local level we've been in this market for five years," Couch said. "Sometimes it feels like 20 and sometimes it feels like two, but we are really proud of the progress we've made and our team's ability to bring a community like this and offer homebuyer opportunities."

According to Couch, the company was established 45 years ago and has since grown to be the largest homebuilder in the country, a title they have held for 21 years running. A title he said they don't plan on giving up.

"We are proudly the largest volume homebuilder in the country," Couch said. "We have no intention of giving up that title, and we're here in Spokane to serve the community."

Lance Beck, the President and C.E.O. of the Greater Spokane Valley Chamber of Commerce explained how expanding the housing market is crucial for groups like the chamber.

"Obviously we're here to help business thrive and I think one of these key things we see is the access to housing has become so hard," Beck said. "So, developments like this are crucial to continue attracting business to the community and so families can grow and thrive."

Spokane County Commissioner Mary Kuney expanded on that, saying that these developments are crucial everywhere right now.

"It is crucial for housing anywhere right now," Kuney said. "So this is huge to have 331 homes coming in."

Stephanie Link, the Marketing Manager for D.R. Horton in Spokane, expanded on Kuney's remarks adding that Elk Meadows Estates is one of the largest communities to date for D.R. Horton.

"331 home sites, this is our biggest community to date other than Windhaven up north," Link said. "We're really excited about some of the amenities we've brought in."

Kuney continued by explaining how the area is close to amenities like grocery stores, parks, and other businesses, and how that in turn will stimulate the economy long term.

More people living in the area will mean more traffic into and out of local businesses, meaning more money will be flowing through the neighborhood as well.

Link also commented on the location being close to a Safeway, and how that impacts the overall neighborhood.

"People being near grocery enriches lives," Link said. "We also wanted people to be able to have good access to local business and other amenities as well."

Commenting on the location, Commissioner Kuney said she felt grateful the company kept the community in mind when building.

"You're making it a truly livable space in the community," Kuney said to members of the D.R. Horton team. "That's what warms my heart as a County Commissioner is having that sense of community."
