Spokane Valley woman returns home

CHENEY — A Spokane Valley woman is returning to the area to play women’s basketball for Eastern Washington University.

Ellie Boni is transferring from San Jose State, Eastern women’s coach Joddie Gleason said earlier this week.

“We are excited to welcome Ellie home,” Gleason said. “Ellie has successfully competed in the Mountain West Conference for several seasons and will bring that veteran toughness and experience to the program,.”

Originally from Spokane Valley, she attended University High School, graduating in 2020.

At University, Ellie earned All-Greater Spokane League first team honors in three seasons, along with a second team honor during her freshman season.  

After graduating high school, Boni played at Colorado State for the 2020-21 season. There, she started 17 games and averaged 7.1 points, along with 3.1 rebounds. She recorded five double-doubles for the Rams.

Following the 2020-21 season, Boni transferred to San Jose State, playing the past two season with the Spartans.

During the two seasons, she appeared in 34 games and made nine starts. In the 2021-22 season, She averaged 7.0 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, adding 3.4 assists.
