Motorcyclist dies from crash-related injuries

AIRWAY HEIGHTS – A motorcyclist died from he sustained in an early Saturday morning motorcycle crash near the entrance to Spokane International Airport.

Christopher R. Cooper, 42, of Spokane, died at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The crash occurred about 2:11 a.m. Saturday morning, April 22, the patrol reported.

Cooper was riding a 2012 Yamaha YZFR6 motorcycle east on U.S. Highway 2 when he left the roadway and struck a cable barrier, the patrol reported. The impact at Milepost 282, near the West Airport Drive intersection, sent him over the barrier and into a westbound lane on the highway.

Cooper was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the patrol reported. A hospital chaplain notified his family.

At the time of the crash, Cooper was wearing a helmet, the patrol reported. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, the patrol reported.

The motorcycle was removed from the crash scene by A Pro Towing.
