Sheriff's office welcomes deputies

SPOKANE - On February 16, 2023, Spokane County Sheriff John Nowels swore in three new Lateral Deputies. Please help us welcome Deputy R. Santovena Fathauer, Deputy M. Huffman, and Deputy D. Sparacio to the Spokane County Sheriff's Office.

Deputy Raymond Santovena Fathauer is 26 years old, born and raised in Glendora, California, and graduated from Glendora High School in 2014. He attended college at Rocky Mountain College on a football scholarship while studying Kinesiology before attending Santa Barbara City College and Citrus College, studying Kinesiology and Liberal Arts. He is a lateral hire from Santa Barbara Police Department (CA), where he has served since 2017 as a patrol officer and SWAT Team member. Deputy Michael Huffman is 38 years old and was born and raised in Spokane. He earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Whitworth University and is working on his master's degree in Organizational Leadership at Gonzaga University. He is a lateral hire from the Spokane Police Department with 15 years of law enforcement experience.

Deputy Douglas Sparacio is 37 years old and grew up in Western Washington. He earned a bachelor's degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice from the University of Portland (OR) and a master's degree in Military Intelligence from the American Military University (Charlestown, WV). He is currently a Major, serving in the Washington Air National Guard, and was deployed to Afghanistan twice. Deputy Sparacio is a lateral hire coming to our agency from the Everett Police Department, where he has served since 2015 as a patrol officer and a K9 handler.
