Former EWU coach Schmedding now DC at WSU

Washington State has hired former Eastern Washington assistant Jeff Schmedding as its new defensive coordinator.

Schmedding, who attended high school at University in the Spokane Valley, coached at Eastern for 15 seasons, three as a graduate assistant, before jumping to Boise State to call the Broncos’ defense in 2019.

He followed Boise State head coach Bryan Harsin to Auburn in 2021 and was the linebackers coach and defensive coordinator in 2022.

Schmedding was not retained by newly-hired Auburn coach Hugh Freeze when Harsin was fired during the season.
