On Nov. 15 in 1921, the Cheney Hotel reopened as the Gilkey Hotel after several months of renovation. The Cheney Free Press made the announcement on Friday, Nov. 18.

Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Gilkey “formerly of Medical Lake,” are at this time the new owners. According to the journalist, the hotel is much improved from its last iteration.

Mr. C. A. Gilkey reported that he was encouraged by the number of patrons he was receiving, although it isn’t clear if the hotel had a “soft open” for select guests before official reopening.
