First snow of the year leaves many stranded

CHENEY - Overnight snowfall across the county leaves many stranded on the road or confined to their homes. As per usual in the first snow, bus schedules are disturbed and commuters run late as residents try to navigate the terrain in town and on the highway. Nov. 4

Reports indicates that as many as three STA buses were temporarily stuck on 1st street and near the Cheney high school. Additionally, the slush immobilized several vehicles parked on Salnave road, 3rd street, and “H” street.

Deputy Chief Bill Dennstaedt said “The day before, we got on with the weather service to see what they would say. We were pretty confident about the weather patterns and planned accordingly.”

“This planning included extra staffing for the wind event and the snow. The wind was our primary concern.”
