BASKETBALL:

Eagle women win exhibition outing

Eastern Washington women’s basketball defeated Eastern Oregon, 67-54, in an exhibition game Oct. 28 at Reese Court.

Eastern had three players in double figures, led by Jacinta Buckley’s 19. Aaliyah Alexander scored 15 points and Jaydia Martin added 10. 

The Eagles will open the 2022-23 regular season against Corban University on Monday, Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. at Reese Court.

CROSS COUNTRY:

Men and women each sixth in ‘Sky championships

Eastern Washington University hosted the Big Sky Championship Oct 28 at the Fairways Golf Course with both men’s and women’s teams finishing sixth. Northern Arizona won both the men’s and women’s titles.

For the men’s side, Noah Hasselblad was the head of the pack in the 8K race finishing 21st with a time of 24 minutes, 32.8 seconds, followed by Cameron Stuard who came in 45th at 25:23.4.

On the women’s team, who ran a 5K race, redshirt freshman Lilly Fetzer led Eastern coming in 28th with a time of 17:47.6. Following her was freshman Faith Martinez in 38th at 18:04.3.

The Eagles now turn their focus to the NCAA West Regional meet on Friday, Nov. 11 in Seattle.

SOCCER:

Morgan earns co-Offensive MVP, All-Conference berth

Eastern Washington’s Maddie Morgan earned Big Sky Co-Offensive MVP announced by the conference Oct. 31. Morgan also earned the Co-Golden Boot Award after recording 10 points in Big Sky matches. The junior shared both awards with Weber State’s Morgan Furmaniak.

Morgan was also selected to the All-Conference First Team. Morgan scored four goals in conference matches and added two assists.

Joining Morgan on the All-Conference First Team is junior Madison Kem. The junior scored three goals this season, with two coming on penalty kicks. This will be Kem’s fourth-straight first team selection. She also earned Newcomer of Year in 2019.

Mya Elder-Hammond’s steady defensive effort all season netted her an All-Conference Second Team selection.

VOLLEYBALL:

Eagles top MSU, fall to Griz

Eastern Washington volleyball split a pair of Big Sky Conference matches with the Montana schools last week at Reese Court falling to Montana 3-1 but topping Montana State 3-2. The teams played rare back-to-back contests Oct. 27 and 28.

The Eagles battled the Montana in a tight contest, but ultimately came up short 3-1 )25-23, 23-25, 23-25, 13-25) losing the final three sets.

Against the Grizzlies, Alyssa Radke recorded her second career 20-kill game, Lindsey Russell tallied 45 assists and recorded a career-high, 18 digs. The game was Russell’s seventh double-double of the season. Makenna Collins recorded 20 digs in the game, giving her two, 20-dig games this season while Sage Brustad finished with 12 digs.

Friday night, the Eagles rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Bobcats 3-2 for the first time in five seasons.

Alyssa Radke led Eastern with 16 kills while Ka’ehukaiiha’amaina’e Keala recorded her first career double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs. Brustad had 14 kills and a career high, 17 digs and Lindsey Russell recorded 52 assists, her third time this season with 50 or more assists.

Eastern improves to 4-6 in conference and 9-13 overall this season and will travel to play Idaho State Nov. 3 and Weber State Nov. 5.
