Lakeside rolls over Medical Lake 66-14

Cardinals lose game but end scoreless string

MEDICAL LAKE - In a season where scoreboard struggles have been a regular occurrence for Medical Lake football, one takes little victories where they can.

Taking on No. 8 ranked Lakeside on the road in Suncrest Oct. 14, the Eagles raced to 50 first quarter points and led 59-0 at the half on the way to a 66-14 Northeast A League win. That opened the door for the Cardinals to dive into their bag go tricks and have a little fun?

Quarterback Isiah Giles played the role of wide receiver and was on the catching end of a 78-yard pass play from Taylor Oliver, Medical Lake’s biggest gain on a single play this season. That led to the Cards’ first score since Sept. 15 when Cylas Puzycki put up points on his 6-yard run.

“Taylor threw a big pass for us,” head coach Nick Puzycki wrote in an email. “Isiah asked me if he could go to receiver for a play and said if you know who can throw it to you and Taylor was the guy,” as the backup QB was out with an injury.

Medical Lake returned to a more traditional look for its final score when Giles connected with Dakotah Phillips on a 16-yard pass play.

Lakeside, 4-0 in league and a perfect 7-0 overall, had all parts of its game operating at peak efficiency in building its big lead.

The Eagles got a pair of rushing touchdowns from Calvin Mikkelsen and quarterback Kole Hunsaker passed for a touchdown and ran for another. Sadahiro Patterson also scored twice, one on a 2-yard run and the other a 40-yard punt return. Lakeside also had a pair of interception returns for scores.

Medical Lake will be at home Oct. 21 for Homecoming in a non-league game vs. the Quincy Jackrabbits (0-3 Caribou Trail, 2-5 overall) for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
