Cheney woman injured in three-vehicle crash

SPOKANE – A Cheney woman was injured in a fatal, three-vehicle crash early Saturday morning, Aug. 13.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Chelsea A. Ross, 37, of Cheney was transported to Deaconess Hospital following the crash at midnight near Milepost 276 of Interstate 90.

Gaige P. LaVoy, 21, of Clayton, died from injuries he sustained in the crash, the patrol reported. His passenger, a woman whose name, age and hometown were not available at press time, was injured and taken to Sacred Heart Hospital.

Meanwhile, Cynthia R. Macy, 63, of Spokane, was injured and facing criminal charges for allegedly causing the crash, the patrol reported.

Macy was eastbound in a westbound lane of the divided interstate at the time of the crash, the patrol reported. She was driving a 2004 Dodge Dakota.

Both LaVoy and Ross were westbound, with LaVoy driving a 2019 Fiat 500 and Ross a Nissan Xterra.

Macy allegedly swerved into the path of LaVoy’s vehicle, then struck Ross’ vehicle, the patrol said. The crash occurred near the Geiger Boulevard exit on Interstate 90, between Spokane and Four Lakes.

Macy is facing possible charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault, records show. She may also be facing a charge of driving while under the influence.

All four people involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts, the patrol reported.

The vehicles involved were towed from the scene.
