Colors of the Rainbow

Together with my friends in the rainbow, we embrace the world. Yellow colors the world with light and warmth, blue manages the skies and the seas, red moves nations’ lifeblood, purple uplifts mountains and royalty, and orange colors the mornings and evenings with joy.

I am Green. It is my responsibility to coordinate blue and yellow. I promote growth: Growth in the earth and also in the womb.

I am mother: I cradle generations.

I am teacher: I teach patience.

I am friend: I practice trust.

I come in many shades, this Green that I am. I am light and airy and deep and dark. I am luscious and sweet and can be sour and harsh. I am fragile and delicate and rigid and strong. I am in awe of the place my color finds in life. And I would not trade my color for any other.

The words and music by George David Weiss and Bob Thiele in their song, “What a Wonderful World,” finish my thoughts:

“I see trees of green, red roses too, I see them bloom for me and for you and I think to myself, What a Wonderful World.

I see skies of blue and clouds of white, the bright blessed day, the dark sacred night and I think to myself, What a Wonderful World.

The colors of the rainbow so pretty in the sky are also on the faces of people goin’ by. I see friends shakin’ hands, sayin’ How do you do, they’re really sayin’ I love you.

I see babies cry, I watch them grow. They’ll learn much more than I’ll ever know and I think to myself What a Wonderful World.”
