Molly & John, a Modern Day, Real World Love Story

In this day of technology first, it can be hard to meet actual people. Swipe left, swipe right, whatever that means and a little cyber-stalking goes a long way towards not finding someone you can truly relate to. This isn’t that kind of story. You see, both Molly and John are folks 50+ years old.

Once you reach a certain age (one that differs for each of us but generally involves a renewed sense of awe and appreciation for the simpler things) you really get down to the meat of what’s important in life. That’s the people you surround yourself with and a love and respect for the world around you.

Molly, new to the area, decided to get involved with the local community as a way of getting to know it and the people who call Cheney home. She joined an exercise group, West Plains Jazzercise and volunteered with the Friends of Turnbull (FOT) National Wildlife Refuge, a nonprofit dedicated to the protection of the refuge through education, research and habitat preservation.

The Friends received a generous donation of a house. The house was in a state of neglect, requiring some TLC- a real hands-on project. John, an FOT board member, spearheaded the project. Molly volunteered. And so the first, chance meeting of John and Molly occurred.

They didn’t see each other again for a while, but ran into each other at the Post Office briefly. Molly knew he was familiar, but couldn’t quite place him at the time. Suddenly, she remembered. Of course! They met through the Friends of the Turnbull house project.

Molly called John to chat about their first meeting and the conversation flowed. They didn’t see each other again for a month. Then Covid hit. FOT meetings moved to the Turnbull gazebo.

Over time, Molly and John got to know each other. They had more in common than they realized, having both lived in the same areas in California and the East Coast in the past, each with a traveler’s spirit. There was a spark and the relationship grew. Eventually dating lead to love.

The couple joined the Writer’s Workshop after Molly spoke with one of the members she met at Jazzercise. Molly and John had been workshop members for nearly a year when they announced their upcoming nuptials.

We are happy to be a part of such a sweet love story and congratulate Molly and John on their March 21st wedding.

What the world needs now is love sweet love…
