Two Cardinal JV wrestlers take first

HANFORD – Hudson Raulston and Aden Carl from Medical Lake both won their respective weight divisions during the Winter Cup wrestling tournament in Hanford. Overall Medical Lake placed tenth.

Raulston wrestled in the 113-pound weight division and took first place with four wins and no losses during the event scoring 18 points for the team. He won by fall over Pasco’s Tonkra Phomtanaphun.

Raulston also won by fall over East Valley wrestler Alex Zaleski. He also pinned Gabriel Mackley from Richland. Raulston had one victory due to an injury default over Ashton Kelley from Southridge High School.

In the 132-weight class Aden Carl took first for the Cardinals with one bye, two pins, and one victory by decision scoring 26 team points.

During the championship round one Carl received a bye. In the quarterfinal round he pinned Caleb Milligan from Walla Walla.

Carl also pinned Ulises Miron during the semi-final round. In the first-place match he faced Rykker Schilperoort from Sunnyside and won 6-2 by decision.

Mason Holt and Carson Buenzil both failed to score any team points in the 138-pound weight division.

Clinton Zimmerman also went scoreless in the 145-class losing his first two matches.

Austin Armstrong won by fall over Newport wrestler Toren Mitcham in his first round, but lost the next two matches and tallied up four team points.

Sheehan Connors also wrestled in the 170 class, and pinned Victor Fierro lll from Kamiakin during his first match of the event. Losing his next two matches, Connors also scored four points for Medical Lake.

In the 182-pound division Ian Stegge pinned Hudson Tyson from Richland and then East Valley wrestler Juan Morales in the following match. He would then lose three straight matches, and he scored 11 team points.

Carter DiBartolo also wrestled in the 182 pound class and he lost his first match, but then received a bye. DiBartolo then pinned Juan Morales from East Valley. DiBartolo lost his next matches, and scored five team points for Medical Lake.

Medical Lake only had two wrestlers signed up to compete in the varsity competition, and Hudson Raulston took seventh place in the 113-pound class. Aden Carl was slated to compete, but had to withdraw due to illness.

Medical Lake will host Colville on January 5.
