Two freshmen wrestlers win gold

MEAD – Two Cheney boys brought home gold from the Joe Ridlington Freshman Invite wrestling tournament Saturday, Dec. 11.

Trenton Moore won all of his bouts at 182 pounds and Gauge Seubert topped the 200-pound class.

Trenton Moore took gold by pinning Parker Neff of Coeur d’Alenne in 1:22 and then defeating Tyler Wells of Mead by a technical fall in 5:22. Moore won his final bout by pinning Blakey Hayes of Coeur d’Alene in 1:28.

Seubert received a bye in the first round of the tournament and then pinned his next three opponents.

He pinned Kurtis Pratt of Central Valley in 1:32, Preston Wentling of Ridgeline in 35 seconds and Evan Bishop of East Valley (Spokane Valley) in 2:57.

Several other Cheney freshmen competed, too.

At 106 pounds, Robert Butler received a first-round bye and then was pinned by Justine Perez in 1:06. Butler was also pinned by Logan Bradley of Coeur d’Alene in 17 seconds, before losing a 12-11 decision to Ryder Ellison of Hanford. In the bout for fifth place, Quinton O’Bannon of University pinned Butler in 3:42.

Cheney entered three wrestlers in the 126 pound class, with Camron Bogle bringing home silver.

Bogle opened by pinning Cameron Fitting of Ridgeline in 1:18 and then Jordan Altringer of Rogers (Spokane) in 1:46. In the semifinals, he pinned Caleb Baum of Hanford in 2:47. But in the finals, Jayson Bonnett of Mount Spokane took the win, pinning Bogle in 2:40.

Aldofo Duran of Cheney also began the tournament with a win, pinning Samuel Lyon of University in 1:43 before being pinned by Baum in 4:34. In the consolation round, Duran pinned Jackson Reault of University in 1:54, but was pinned in his final match by Blake Birl of Richland in 4:29.

The third Cheney grappler at 126 pounds, Jacob Estock, opened by pinning Hanford’s Diego Torres in 1:43, but was lost a major decision in the quarterfinals by Nicolas Cisneros of Ridgline, 14-5. The loss bounced him to the consolation round, where he lost a major decision, 18-7.

At 132 pounds, Haiden Ruiz of Cheney lost two bouts. He was pinned by Kaeden Greer of Hanford in 2:33 and then Jackson Syron of Ferris in 2:05.

At 170 pounds, Mason Bennett opened with a bye, but was pinned in the quarterfinals by Koen Hanson of Richland. In the consolation round, he received another bye and then pinned Nolan Shahan of Hanford in 36 seconds, before being pinned in his final match by Jack Mayer of Coeur d’Alene in 45 seconds.

Bennett faced Dillon Mareth of Deer Park in the bout for fifth place, pinning his Stag opponenet in 56 seconds.

In the 285-pound class, Bradley Koonce lost five matches by pin.

He was pinned by Brayden Maddox of Gonzaga Prep in 1:12 and Markus Fetcho of Mead in 16 seconds, Dheyauldeen Alnajati of Ridgeline in 1:24, Tyler Shipley of Mount Spokane in 48 seconds and Wyatt Seagle of Mount Spokane in 52 seconds.
