Council approves tax increase

AIRWAY HEIGHTS -- The City Council unanimously approved a 1% tax hike following a public hearing Nov. 15.

No community members addressed the council during the hearing.

After doing the math pertaining to his own property, Mayor Sonny Weathers said he will only be paying a little more than $4 more annually. Collectively, the tax will generate nearly $14,000 in revenue

City Manager Albert Tripp said the city pays a much lower rate than neighboring and regional communities, noting Cheney and Spokane Valley as examples.
