CHENEY-Monica Jaenicke was named assistant athletic director for communications for Eastern Washington University on Oct. 1.

Jaenicke, 29, of Airway Heights, is the only woman football sports information director at the Big Sky Conference.

She had been acting in the role since Dave Cook's retirement in July,

"I am grateful for this opportunity and getting to replace Dave Cook, who was a mentor of mine since I was a student is an honor," she said.

Outside of her new role, she likes listening to music, working on her house, going to baseball games and gardening, she said.
