Eagles crush Idaho, 71-21, on Roos Field

CHENEY – The Eastern Eagles routed Big Sky rival Idaho, 71-21, on the red gridiron at Roos Field on Saturday, Oct. 16.

It was the 20th straight win at home for the No. 2-ranked football team.

Eastern (7-0) is off to its best-ever start in the Football Championship Subdivision.

And the the Eagles tied a school-record 29 points in the first quarter in the game. Eastern also logged a program-record 837 yards of total offense with 624 passing yards and 213 rushing yards.

Quarterback Eric Barriere accounted for 600 of those yards, completing 26-of-35 passes for seven touchdowns. He also rushed for another touchdown.

Fairchild to host wheelchair basketball game

FAIRCHILD AIR FORCE BASE – In support of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Fairchild Air Force Base commanders and chiefs will play Eastern Washington University’s wheelchair basketball team Friday, Oct. 22.

The Eastern Eagles will be coached by David Evjen; tipoff is at 10:30 a.m.

The theme for the month is "America's Recovery: Powered by Inclusion," planned to emphasize the importance of ensuring people with disabilities have full access to employment and community involvement.

Eastern Washington University's wheelchair basketball team was established in 2019.

Bears spike Eagles in 3 sets

GREELEY, Colo. – The Eastern Eagles volleyball team was spiked by Northern Colorado, 3-0, on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Set scores are 25-18, 25-18, 25-20.

The Eagles drop to 7-9, while the Bears improve to 15-4.

Ka’ehukailha’amaina’e Keala led the Eagles with 6 kills, 10 digs and an ace. Sage Brustad added 6 kills, 5 digs and a block assist, while Lindsey Russell had 13 assists, 7 digs and 2 block assists.

Ashlyn Blotzer and Maya McClellan had 4 block assists each, Makenna Collins had 10 digs and Noa Torio had an ace.

Eastern girls fall, 2-0, to Grizzlies

CHENEY – The Eastern Washington women’s soccer team (5-11) lost 2-0 to the Montana Grizzlies on Sunday, Oct. 17.

Montana scored in the 15th minute and in the 65th minute to take the game.

Skyleigh Thompson scored both goals for the Grizzlies (9-5-1).

She scored the first goal on a pass from Sydney Haustein and snuck the second goal in on her own.

Eagles run in California

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Eagles women finished eighth and the men 14th at the Highland Invitational cross country meet at University of California-Riverside on Oct. 16.

Loren Linnenburger paced the Eastern Washington women, finishing 51st overall in the women’s 6K event in a time of 22:05.

Noah Hasselblad was the fastest Eagle men’s competitor, finishing 18th overall with a time of 24:24.9 in the 8K event.

The Eagles cross country teams are back on the course, Friday, Oct. 29 at the Big Sky Conference Championships in Portland, Ore.
