Cheney swimmers top Kennewick, Walla Walla

CHENEY – The Blackhawks girls swim and dive team faced off against Kennewick and Walla Walla on Sept. 28. Cheney defeated both.

Cheney topped Kennewick, 93-83, and Walla Walla, 91-89,

Blackhawks girls taking first in the meet against both teams included

Joyalise O’Dell, Kate Kissell, Lauren Howe and Janie Richards in the 200m medley relay,.

O’Dell also won the 200m freestyle awhile Richards won the 100m backstroke.

Howe won both the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Teammate Jade Gere took top honors in the 100m breaststroke.

Blackhawks top Wolfpack

CHENEY – The Cheney girls soccer team won, 5-1, over the North Central Wolfpack at home Monday, Oct. 4.

Cheney (4-6) and North Central (2-7) were tied 1-1 at the end of the first half.

But the Blackhawks scored 4 unanswered goals in the second half for the win.

The local girls were scheduled to travel to Ridgeline to play the 4-3 Falcons on Wednesday, Oct. 6. The Free Press went to press before game time.

State seeks input on bear season

OLYMPIA – The state Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking comment on new spring black bear hunting season rules.

The proposed new rules set permit limits; comments may be submitted by Oct.21.

“We’ll use this information to guide how we offer spring black bear special permit opportunities in 2022,”

Agency game division manager Ani Aoude said.
