Local man to open tattoo parlor here

New business set to offer work beginning Oct. 5

CHENEY – Residents and visitors can expect to find a new tattoo shop in town, as Skot Weston plans to open the doors to Cheney Tattoo on Oct. 5.

Weston had been hoping to move his shop here from Spokane and he jumped on the opportunity when given the chance to relocate to F Street, he said.

Customers will enter a tattoo room filled with horror movie collectibles, posters and other memorabilia, which Weston collects.

The 40-year-old artist has been an independent contractor working at Missing Piece Tattoo in Spokane for several years, he said.

Weston has lived in Cheney with his wife, Heather, for 2 years, and said he is excited to bring his skills to a community that doesn't have many tattoo artists.

Weston completed his apprenticeship in New Orleans more than 15 years ago, but was forced to move his life and his trade to Washington following Hurricane Katrina.

As an illustrator, Weston has always enjoyed utilizing new theories and techniques to bring vibrant colors to life, he said.

His color work is what he is most inspired to do and has become popular with Spokane customers, he said.

"I used to work in a tattoo shop in Las Vegas, and Skot's color blending work is better than any I've seen," Client Heather Hoffmeister said of Weston's work.

Weston said his approach is very connected, as his art is a method of meditation.

"It allows me to express the creativity of my soul," he said.

Weston expects to hit the ground running when he opens shop next month.

The hours will be noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.

Located in a room in Minerva's, 111 F St., walk-ins will be welcome for consultations and for on-the-spot work if it fits the schedule, he said.

The artist is always willing to work around people's schedules as well and can make "off hour" appointments when necessary, he said.

Weston charges per piece, and not by the hour. Prices are dependent on what the customer needs and wants including size, location, and color scheme of the tattoo.

He also plans to offer "tap-out" sessions, meaning Weston will apply the ink until the customer taps out.
